US Lawmaker Moves to End H-1B Visa Programme

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced a bill seeking to end the H-1B visa programme, accusing US companies of using it to replace American workers. The proposal includes a temporary exemption of 10,000 visas annually for medical professionals, which would be phased out over 10 years.

The move comes days after Donald Trump voiced support for the H-1B system. Greene said the bill would eliminate the visa route, end its pathway to citizenship, and require all holders to return home after expiry. Indian professionals—who account for over 70% of H-1B recipients—are expected to be most affected.
