Summary of India vs South Africa 2nd Test (Nov 22–26, 2025, Guwahati)
This match turned out to be very difficult for India. South Africa controlled the game from the start and moved very close to a rare 2–0 series win on Indian soil. With one day left, South Africa is clearly in a strong position, and India needs something extraordinary to survive.
How the Match Went:
Day 1:
South Africa chose to bat first and began steadily. Aiden Markram and other top-order batters gave them a good base. By the end of the day, they were 247/6, but India pulled things back a bit thanks to Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, who took some late wickets.
Day 2:
South Africa continued to grind India down. Senuran Muthusamy played a long, patient innings, and Marco Jansen almost scored a century. Their total of 489 put India under big pressure right from the start.
Day 3:
India’s batting collapsed. They were bowled out for just 201. Jansen was outstanding with the ball too, taking 6 wickets and troubling Indian batters with his pace and bounce. South Africa then reached 26/0 in their second innings, taking their lead to 314.
Day 4:
South Africa batted slowly and sensibly, using up time and extending their lead. They declared at 260/5 and set India a massive target of 549 runs—something never chased before in India. India’s reply started badly. Jaiswal and KL Rahul fell quickly, leaving India at 27/2 by the end of the day. They still needed 522 more runs.
Key Performers:
For South Africa, Marco Jansen stood out with both bat and ball. Simon Harmer also bowled well in the fourth innings. Their batters batted long and tired India out. For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant showed some effort, but the team struggled overall.
What Now?
India needs to survive the final day, but the chances look slim. South Africa needs only 8 more wickets to seal the series.
