Mamdani Reveals the Oddest Moment: A ‘UFC at the White House’ Book on Trump’s Table

After his unexpected friendly meeting with President Donald Trump, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani shared a funny and surprising detail from his White House visit. He said the strangest thing he saw in the Oval Office was a shiny coffee-table book titled UFC at the White House. Mamdani, a 34-year-old Democratic socialist who campaigned on rent freezes and affordable housing, talked about it on The Adam Friedland Show podcast, and the story quickly grabbed attention.

Mamdani said that on November 21, he reached the Oval Office early and noticed a pile of coffee-table books on the table. One was all about a UFC event planned for June 2026 on the White House South Lawn—scheduled to celebrate Trump’s 80th birthday. The book featured fighters like Jon Jones and described a huge setup with giant screens for 85,000 fans. UFC CEO Dana White, a close Trump ally, also promised to pay $700,000 to repair the lawn afterward.

The moment added a lighter tone to what many expected to be a tense meeting. Trump previously called Mamdani a “communist lunatic” and threatened to cut federal funds to New York City. But after the meeting, Trump said it was “very good” and “productive,” even joking that they have more in common than people think.

Mamdani remained calm, even when Trump teased him about the city’s migrant issues. Later, Mamdani made it clear he hasn’t changed his political views, calling Trump a “fascist” on Meet the Press, but said he met him for the sake of New Yorkers.

The meeting stirred mixed reactions among Trump supporters, with some angry and others viewing it as smart politics. As Mamdani prepares to take office in January, the UFC book story highlights just how unusual and unpredictable Trump’s presidency continues to be.
