Europe Faces Major Flight Disruptions as Airlines Cancel and Delay Services
Europe experienced significant travel disruption on November 22, 2025, as several major airlines—including British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, KLM, and Swiss—cancelled more than 65 flights and delayed over 1,800 others. The disruptions affected major airports such as Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, and Brussels, leaving thousands of passengers stranded, with some forced to spend the night in airport terminals.
According to airline officials, the delays and cancellations were caused by a combination of severe weather, including strong winds and storms, along with operational challenges such as staff shortages and technical issues. This is the latest in a series of travel disruptions seen across Europe this week, with similar problems reported at major hubs like London and Frankfurt.
Passengers expressed frustration on social media, highlighting long waits and lack of clear information. One traveler wrote, “What happened to the first world?” as more flights were added to the cancellation lists. Others advised fellow passengers to keep checking airline apps, carry food, and be aware of compensation rules. Under EU regulations, travelers may be eligible for financial compensation if their flights are delayed by more than three hours.
Airlines have issued apologies and are working to rebook affected passengers, but the process is taking time due to the high number of disruptions. Travelers scheduled to fly in the coming days are being urged to monitor their flight status regularly.
