Ayushman Bharat Now Offers Up to ₹10 Lakh Health Cover – Who Gets It?

There is good news for many families in India. The government has improved the Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) health scheme, especially for families with elderly members.

Earlier, eligible low-income families received free treatment up to ₹5 lakh per year in government and selected private hospitals. Now, many families can get up to ₹10 lakh.

How can a family get ₹10 lakh instead of ₹5 lakh?

It’s simple.

If your family has any member aged 70 or above, that person will get an extra ₹5 lakh health cover, added to the family’s regular ₹5 lakh. This means the family can use ₹10 lakh in total.

If there are two elderly members above 70, then each of them gets the extra cover.

Who can use Ayushman Bharat?


The scheme is for poor and low-income families who are listed in the SECC-2011 government data or who have ration cards under NFSA (priority or Antyodaya households).


If you already have an Ayushman card (golden card), you are included.


There is no limit on family size. Husband, wife, children, parents, grandparents, and in-laws living together are all covered. Age does not matter.

No age limit — even 80+ and 90+ people get full benefits


Free yearly health check-up


Expensive treatments covered (heart surgery, cancer care, knee replacement, organ transplant, etc.)

How to get the extra ₹5 lakh for senior citizens?


If you already have an Ayushman card:


Visit any Ayushman-empanelled hospital or Ayushman help centre


Do Aadhaar e-KYC again (takes only a few minutes)


The system will automatically add the extra ₹5 lakh for members aged 70+


In short:

If your family has someone aged 70 or above and you are already part of Ayushman Bharat, your health cover has basically doubled to ₹10 lakh. This is a big help when medical costs are rising.


Check your Ayushman card and make sure the senior citizens in your family get their extra benefit!
