Vijay Shankar made his return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 after nearly 11 years, breaking a franchise record. He was signed for ₹1.2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Shankar, who previously played for Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad, initially debuted with CSK a decade ago but only played one game during his first stint. His return marks a significant homecoming, as he expressed excitement about playing again at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

In CSK's recent match against Rajasthan Royals on March 30, 2025, Shankar was included in the playing XI, replacing Deepak Hooda, as CSK sought to recover from a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru9.
