Paul Danan, the former Hollyoaks actor and reality TV personality, died at his home in Bristol due to a mix of drugs, including cocaine and heroin, as revealed during an inquest opening. He was 46 years old at the time of his death on January 15, when he was found unresponsive by emergency services.
The inquest, led by senior coroner Maria Voisin at Avon Coroner's Court, disclosed that Danan's death was caused by "combined toxicity" from various substances such as heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine, and zopiclone, with benzodiazepine also playing a role. His partner, Melissa Crooks, identified his body at the scene.
Coroner's officer Alexis Camp stated that there were no family concerns and that no note was left behind. The court heard that Danan had struggled with addiction throughout his life, spending around £1 million on rehabilitation. He had recently faced legal issues, being scheduled for a plea hearing related to drug possession charges.
A full inquest hearing has been provisionally set for May 28 to gather further evidence from Danan's GP, family, and emergency services involved in the case.
