Beyonce makes history as she wins album of the year in Grammys 2025

Beyoncé made history at the 2025 Grammy Awards by winning Album of the Year for "Cowboy Carter", her first win in this prestigious category despite being the most nominated artist in Grammy history. This milestone is particularly significant as she became only the third woman of color to win Album of the Year, with the last being Lauryn Hill 26 years ago.

Key Achievements:
  • First Album of the Year win after four previous nominations
  • Topped the nominations list with 11 nominations
  • Became the most awarded artist since 2023 with 32 trophies
  • Also won Best Country Album, becoming the first Black female artist to do so
During her emotional acceptance speech, Beyoncé acknowledged the Los Angeles firefighters and emphasized breaking genre barriers, stating "Genre is a code word to keep us in place as artists".
The win comes after her husband Jay-Z previously highlighted the Grammy's historical oversight of artists of color.
