Cold Weather Payments are currently available for eligible households in areas experiencing seven consecutive days of temperatures at or below 0°C. Here's what you need to know:

Eligibility Criteria
You can receive a £25 payment if you get:
  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • Universal Credit
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support for Mortgage Interest
Payment Details

  • £25 per seven-day period of freezing temperatures
  • Payments automatic for qualifying recipients
  • Scheme runs from November 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025
  • Approximately 6,000 people across 23 postcode areas currently qualify
  • Payments arrive within 14 working days

  • Payments are triggered automatically based on local temperature records
Important Note
Residents in Scotland are not eligible, as they receive an annual Winter Heating Payment instead.

White House fires National Security Agency chief

Watch more The White House has fired General Timothy Haugh, the director of the National Security Agency (NSA), and his deputy, Wendy Noble. Haugh also led U.S. Cyber Command, overseeing both offensive and defensive cyber operations. The reasons for their dismissal are unclear, but it follows a series of high-profile firings by the Trump administration,  including National Security Council staff members. Lt. Gen.
