Washington plane crash

A tragic mid-air collision occurred on Wednesday night near Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC, involving an American Airlines passenger jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter.

Key Details:

  • The American Airlines Flight 5342 (a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700) was carrying 60 passengers and 4 crew members from Wichita, Kansas
  • The US Army helicopter had 3 soldiers aboard and was on a nighttime training exercise12
  • The aircraft collided while the plane was approaching Runway 33 at approximately 9 PM local time
