She was married to Laurence Olivier from 1961 until his death in 1989. In 2014, she retired from acting after becoming legally blind due to macular degeneration. Her final public appearance was in the 2018 documentary "Nothing Like a Dame" alongside fellow acting legends Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, and Eileen Atkins.Plowright was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 2004 and was considered one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
