The name Muhammad has overtaken Noah to become the most popular baby boy name in England and Wales for 2023, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). 

Muhammad was given to 4,661 boys, an increase from 4,177 in 2022, while Noah dropped to 4,382 names. This marks the first time a single spelling of Muhammad has led the list, although variations like Mohammed and Mohammad also appear in the top 100.

The name has been in the top 10 since 2016, reflecting its cultural significance. For girls, Olivia remains the most popular name, followed by Amelia and Isla. The influence of pop culture on naming trends is evident, with new names entering the top 100 inspired by celebrities and recent films.
