Snow weather forecast, Met office give latest verdict on a white Christmas in the UK

The Met Office suggests a low likelihood of a widespread white Christmas in the UK for 2024. Their long-range forecast indicates:

  • Snow will likely be restricted to high ground
  • Possible temporary snowfall at lower levels in the North during colder periods
  • Scottish Highlands most likely to see any snow accumulation

  • Temperatures expected to be around monthly average
  • Northern regions will experience wet and windy conditions
  • Southern areas will have drier weather due to high pressure
  • Temperatures potentially reaching 12-13°C in London
The Met Office emphasizes that predicting snow remains challenging due to the "chaotic nature of the atmosphere". They recommend checking more localized forecasts closer to Christmas Day for the most accurate prediction.Interestingly, a Helsinki University study found that some UK regions have seen slight variations in snow probability, with southern and eastern England experiencing a 10% increase in snow likelihood between 1991-2020.

White House fires National Security Agency chief
