Rebels declare Damascus free

 


Rebel forces in Syria have declared Damascus "free" of President Bashar al-Assad, claiming he has fled the capital. 

This declaration follows a rapid offensive by opposition groups that has seen significant territorial gains, including the capture of Aleppo and Homs. 

Reports indicate that Assad left Damascus by plane for an unknown location, while crowds celebrated in the streets of the capital. The situation suggests a potential collapse of Assad's regime, raising concerns about implications for Russia and Iran, both key allies of the Syrian government
