Putin claims Ukrain war has made Russia 'much stronger')

During his year-end press conference, Vladimir Putin claimed Russia is becoming increasingly powerful through the ongoing war in Ukraine. He asserted that Russia is making significant territorial gains, stating troops are reclaiming "territory measured in square kilometers" along the entire frontline.


Key claims by Putin include:
  • Russia currently has 617,000 troops fighting in Ukraine
  • The war's objectives remain unchanged: "denazification, demilitarization, and neutral status" of Ukraine
  • Russia is experiencing a continuous "stream of men ready to defend the homeland"
Putin emphasized that Russia's sovereignty is paramount, declaring "the existence of our country without sovereignty is impossible." He portrayed the conflict as an ongoing struggle against Western interference, maintaining that the "truth is on our side" and that Russia will continue its military efforts.The Russian president also suggested the war has strategic implications beyond Ukraine, positioning it as part of a broader geopolitical confrontation with Western powers.

White House fires National Security Agency chief

Haugh also led U.S. Cyber Command, overseeing both offensive and defensive cyber operations.
