Privacy concern over acra's bizfile search

The recent launch of ACRA's new Bizfile system has raised significant privacy concerns, as users can access full National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) numbers by simply entering a person's name.

Veteran journalist Bertha Henson highlighted this issue, revealing that even individuals without business connections had their NRIC numbers displayed publicly.

While ACRA defends this practice as promoting transparency in the business environment, critics argue it poses serious risks for identity theft and fraud.

The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) restricts the disclosure of such personal information, yet ACRA is exempt from these regulations, leading to calls for urgent review and potential changes to protect citizens' sensitive data.
