Mayor johnson budget team

Mayor Brandon Johnson's budget team is currently negotiating a significantly reduced property tax hike of approximately
$60 million after an initial proposal for a $300 million increase was unanimously rejected by the City Council.

The mayor aims to finalize a balanced budget by the end of the year, but many council members remain opposed to any tax increase, citing financial strain on residents.

Johnson has emphasized the importance of maintaining city services without job cuts, while discussions continue on alternative revenue sources to address a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall for 2025.
