Arsenal's creativity black hole

Arsenal is currently facing a significant creativity crisis, as highlighted by several troubling statistics. They rank
13th in the Premier League for open play expected goals (xG), having created an xG in only three out of 15 games this season.

This lack of offensive output is evident, with the team failing to score from open play in their last three league matches and in five of their 24 matches across all competitions this season, a stark increase compared to only eight instances in the previous season.

Key factors contributing to this creativity black hole include:
  • The departure of Granit Xhaka, which has left a void in midfield creativity.
  • The underperformance of players like Kai Havertz and the tight marking of wide players such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
  • A reliance on set pieces for scoring, where Arsenal has excelled but has masked their struggles in open play.
To improve, Mikel Arteta may need to adjust his tactical setup or integrate more dynamic creative players like Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira into the lineup to enhance attacking fluidity and effectiveness
