Thousands of Amazon delivery drivers initiated a strike on Thursday morning at seven distribution centers across the United States. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters organized the walkout, targeting facilities in Southern California, New York City, Atlanta, and Skokie, Illinois.

Key details of the strike include:
  • Drivers are employed by companies contracted by Amazon
  • Teamsters claim to represent about 10,000 workers across 10 Amazon locations
  • Workers are demanding better wages and working conditions
  • Amazon asserts the strike will not disrupt its operations
The National Labor Relations Board has previously issued a complaint recognizing these workers as Amazon employees and accusing the company of violating labor laws by refusing to negotiate.

Amazon maintains that the contracted drivers are not its direct employees and disputes the union's claims. The strike comes during the critical holiday shopping season, potentially impacting package deliveries nationwide.
