Devika Rotawan is a significant figure in the context of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, also known as the 26/11 attacks, due to her role as a young survivor and key eyewitness.
The Attack and Injuries
On November 26, 2008, Devika was just 9 years old when she was caught in the crossfire at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. She, along with her father and brother, was waiting for a train to Pune when the terrorists launched their attack. Devika was shot in the leg by Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab, one of the terrorists, and suffered severe injuries that required six surgeries and a 45-day hospital stay. She lost the use of her right leg during her treatment and recuperation
